2. Our Experience on the Tour

We did a wonderful combination of the Cape Classic and Foodies on Foot tours – and even a grey, stormy day couldn’t dampen the magic.

Our journey began at the Stellenbosch Village Museum, where we stepped back in time to uncover stories from the town’s early days, when it was known as Wildebosch. We learned about the five oldest roads, like Dorp Street, which settlers used to travel to Cape Town over a three-day journey. The highlight was visiting Schreuderhuis, the oldest documented townhouse in South Africa, built in 1709.

Next, we enjoyed a delightful tea tasting at Eendracht Hotel, where we sampled Rooibos, Honeybush, and Buchu tea, each paired with a classic South African treat. Its rich historical link to Stellenbosch added an extra layer of charm.

Our final stop was Wijnhuis, where we savoured Carpaccio and local gin perfectly paired together. The restaurant’s delightful fusion of Italian flair and South African spirit made it a perfect end to the tour.

3. So Much More Than a Walking Tour

What sets Bites & Sites apart is its heart. This tour doesn’t just showcase Stellenbosch’s flavours – it supports local businesses, celebrates heritage, and encourages slow, sustainable travel. It’s a shining example of regenerative tourism in action.

Have dietary requirements or mobility concerns? Just let them know in advance – the team is wonderfully accommodating.

Because the tour is entirely on foot, you'll get to stroll Stellenbosch’s picturesque streets at a relaxed pace. Rain? No problem – they provide umbrellas! Just wear comfy shoes and bring your camera for all the Insta-worthy moments along the way.

After the tour ends, you’ll find yourself right in the thick of town – surrounded by boutique shops, buzzing cafes, and even more opportunities to savour Stellenbosch’s charm.

Final Thoughts

The Bites & Sites tour is more than just a tasting – it’s a full-sensory celebration of Stellenbosch’s culture, history, and hospitality. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, this experience offers a fresh, flavourful way to connect with the town and its people.

So if you're planning a trip to Stellenbosch, be sure to book a spot on this unforgettable tour – your taste buds (and your travel journal) will thank you.
